Hollis Brown: Electric Violin
Hollis started working with bands while living in the Chicago area. She was the fiddler for the Wildwood Pickers (house band for Bill Monroe's Bean Blossom Festival). After moving to Raleigh, NC, Hollis was a founding member of blackgirls who recorded 3 albums (two were produced by Joe Boyd and released by Mammoth Records) and toured both nationally and in England. "The blackgirls are three women ...who purvey a gorgeous alternative, underground chamber music..." (Musician Magazine). After leaving blackgirls, Hollis became a founding member of the instrumental rock band Ozone Quartet. 'Raleigh's Ozone Quartet reintroduces the best influences of rock- fusion pioneers like King Crimson. The results are spectacular!' (Spectator Magazine). Ozone Quartet performed at progressive rock festivals and clubs on the East Coast for eight years. Ozone Quartet's CDs 'Fresh Blood' and 'Nocturne' have received extensive international air play and press. Hollis Brown's eclectic musical taste and background are evident in her professional work as a violinist. Throughout her career, Hollis has worked as a session player and performed as a guest artist.
